Within that e-mail, there will be a link to set a password for the account you created. They are good APs, but they require hivemanager to do seamless handoff and RRM, and theyre a pain in the ass to configure via the CLI. Both AP’s can take 802.3af compatible PoE injectors or use a separate power adapter. Be sure to use the right specs, they are available here and here. I like to use the PoE adapters so I got a couple from a local store for about 20 bucks each. Was hoping I could just SSH in to configure the very few settings I need to make it work.
You’re evil if you don’t match the VLAN ID numbers to the attribute numbers. The Aerohive AP’s run their own HiveOS which seems pretty decent in practice. The OS provides management and basic networking capabilities. I’ve seen some enterprises use Aerohive products that they’re happy with. In general HiveOS and related products are a good experience to manage.
A Quick Guide To Configuring An Aerohive AP
A fully distributed control architecture increases speed, scale, and resiliency, providing a foundation for connectivity that is supported by access layer switches and branch routers. Unified management designed to simplify administration with enhanced visibility and control, smarter troubleshooting, and flexible deployments through public, private, and on-premises solutions. Now, you will be looking at the “Device Templates” tab. Since we turned off switching and routing for this particular network policy, the only thing you see in the “Device Templates” tab is a section labeled “AP Templates”. If switching was turned on, it would display another section labeled “Switch Templates”. Click on the “Onboard Devices” button to get rid of this screen.
Perform AD/LDAP integration without configuring an additional RADIUS server. Enable users to connect to the network with their existing username and password. The XR600P provides secure routing and SD-WAN functionality for mid-enterprise branches with demanding throughput requirements. It also offers extensible uplink and PoE+ capabilities. The SR2348P is a top of line stacking-capable access switch with premium port density and ultra-high PoE budget. AP650X is an external antenna variant of the AP650, delivering blistering performance with 802.11ax, Dual 5GHz and integrated 2.5 GE.
INSIGHTS INTO CUSTOMER BEHAVIOR
Hivemanager isn't free, so I would just connect it up, put on a basic configuration, then disconnect it. It should just keep running although you won't be able to change much. There is a good community AeroHive forum you could also ask on. Retail analytics provide highly relevant information to support a variety of decisions, from promotions planning to employee scheduling.

One gripe I have with the AP121 is with the status LED, or with the fact that the color stays amber, to be exact. I’ve found some information regarding the LED colors on this page and also on a couple of forum threads, but I wanted an official doc as a reference. The link provided is information for the AP330 and AP350 but the colors seem the same. Here is an FAQ entry from an official rep giving some specific info for the AP121. The amber color seems to indicate something to do with hardware, firmware or CAPWAP connections. I use the AP’s without CAPWAP connections and for the rest the devices seem to be functioning properly in all ways.
CLIENT SLA
It can utilize a number of mechanisms to find where it needs to go in the same way that a controller based AP will. By default, the AP will come online, grab a DHCP lease, and try to connect to redirector.aerohive.com. In order to do that, it is going to have to have access to DNS servers, which will almost always be provided via the DHCP lease. However, in addition to DNS, the AP will attempt to set its internal clock with NTP.

As long as you have a license key, you can provision your own environment without having to wait on Aerohive to build out your environment for you. This option requires an entitlement key for each of your devices(e.g. AP, switch, router). The second option is referred to as HiveManager Connect. The difference between Connect and Select is that with Connect, you have far fewer configuration and management options.

Your AP is now up and running in HiveManager, but the configuration was uploaded during the onboarding process. What I would like to do is show you what it looks like when you make a change to the network policy or device and need to push an updated configuration to it. Let’s change something simple like the hostname of the device. If we had any APs already added to HiveManager, this screen would show the APs in a list and then you could select the AP you wanted to apply this policy to. However, we have not added an AP yet, so we are finished with the network policy configuration.

If you don’t already have one, you will want to create another VLAN for management purposes. Each Aerohive AP will have its own management IP, which will be used to talk to HiveManager, as well as any other Aerohive APs on the network. The management IP will also be used to make connections to RADIUS servers and any additional management systems for things like SNMP and syslog.
